Sanders attacks Trump appointee for believing Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven.
Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders attacked a Trump administration appointee during a Senate Budget Committee nomination hearing on Wednesday for writing a personal blog post on his belief that Muslims stand condemned before God for rejecting the Lord Jesus Christ.
Sen. Sanders alleged that Russel Vaught, Trump’s pick for deputy director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, used “hateful” language in his post.
“In the piece that I referred to that you wrote for the publication called Resurgent. You wrote, ‘Muslims do not simply have a deficient theology. They do not know God because they have rejected Jesus Christ, His Son, and they stand condemned.’ Do you believe that that statement is Islamophobic?” Sanders asked.
Vaugn responded by asserting that his Christian belief in “the centrality of Jesus Christ for salvation” did not constitute bigotry.
“As a Christian, I believe that all individuals are made in the image of God and are worthy of dignity and respect regardless of their religious beliefs,” he said.
That wasn’t enough for Sanders, who claimed the blog post was “indefensible, it is hateful and Islamophobic, and an insult to over a billion Muslims throughout the world.”
Perhaps the Vermont senator should open up a Bible and understand the Christian gospel before regurgitating his social justice warrior buzzwords.
Here’s what the Bible says about salvation:
Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:5-6
Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also. 1 John 2:23
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. Mark 16:16
Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3:3
And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,
In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9
He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 3:18
The President of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention Russell Moore said he was shocked at Sanders’ line of questioning.
“Even if one were to excuse Senator Sanders for not realizing that all Christians of every age have insisted that faith in Jesus Christ is the only pathway to salvation, it is inconceivable that Senator Sanders would cite religious beliefs as disqualifying an individual for public office in defiance of the United States Constitution,” Moore stated.
“No religious test shall ever be required of those seeking public office. While no one expects Senator Sanders to be a theologian, we should expect far more from an elected official who has taken an oath to support and defend the Constitution.”
Sanders essentially used political correctness to bully a Bible believing Christian. The former Democratic presidential candidate clearly doesn’t understand that anyone who rejects Jesus Christ will go to Hell – and that includes the Vermont senator himself.
