Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky has introduced legislation to repeal anti-gun laws that ban possession of firearms inside school zones and prevent good samaritans from protecting people in the event of a mass shooting.

The legislation has received increased attention following a shooting in Fort Lauderdale which saw a crazed man murder five innocent people and injure several others at a baggage claim.

The Safe Students Act will repeal the Gun-Free School Zones Act.

Since 2009, 92% of mass shootings have occured in “gun-free” zones according to Breitbart.  The data suggests that criminals specifically pursue “soft” targets in areas where their victims are incapable of fighting back and protecting themselves.

“Gun-free school zones are ineffective,” Massie said in a statement released on 1/5. “They make people less safe by inviting criminals into target-rich, no-risk environments. Gun-free zones prevent law-abiding citizens from protecting themselves, and create vulnerable populations that are targeted by criminals.”

“A bigger federal government can’t solve this problem,” he added, before pointing out that gun-free zones are unconstitutional.

Democrats are expected to oppose the legislation to push their gun control agenda which has clearly failed in cities like Detroit and Chicago.
