Sources say the United States will deploy troops to Syria, a direct contradiction to Barack Obama’s promise to stay out of the region.
Officials say that special forces will be deployed in Syria, according to the BBC.
White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Obama wanted to provide aid for Syrian rebels.
“There are now moderate opposition forces that are 45 miles (72km) outside Raqqa,” Earnest said. “The president is prepared to intensify the elements that have shown promise.” Source
Obama’s decision to put boots in the ground contrasts greatly from his stance in 2013:
I guess we can chalk this one up as yet another broken promise from the President.
