Shooting on Oregon campus, a gun-free zone, kills 10 students.
Today’s attack at Umpqua Community College saw 10 casualties and 20 injuries after a gunman reportedly opened fire on students.
The college’s official website had posted the following excerpt prior to the incident, indicating that the area was a “gun-free” zone.
“Possession, use, or threatened use of firearms (including but not limited to BB guns, air guns, water pistols, and paint guns) ammunition, explosives, dangerous chemicals, or any other objects as weapons on college property, except as expressly authorized by law or college regulations, is prohibited.
Possession of knives with a blade longer than 4” is prohibited.
Brandishing weapons is prohibited.
Misuse of personal defensive weapons – e.g., pepper spray, etc. is prohibited. The owner is responsible and accountable for any misuse of these devices.”
CBS reported that nobody was armed at the time of the shooting, not even campus police officers.
If responsible gun owners had been present at the scene, one must wonder if the damage left behind by the shooter would have been significantly minimized.
Additional information from the New York Post revealed that the killer allegedly demanded to know if his victims were Christians before shooting them.
A woman who claimed to have a grandmother inside a writing class in Snyder Hall, where a portion the massacre unfolded, described the scene in a tweet.
“The shooter was lining people up and asking if they were Christian,” she wrote. “If they said yes, then they were shot in the head. If they said no, or didn’t answer, they were shot in the legs.
Everyone at We The Vigilant would like to extend their deepest condolences to the families of the victims at this time. May God heal you as we mourn with you over the loss of innocent life at the hands of wickedness.
