Gun Violence Down 51% Since 1991

New data suggests increase in gun purchases since 1991 lead to decrease in crime.

The FBI and ATF presented data suggesting an increase in weapons purchases since 1991 lead to a decrease in crime. Americans purchased 170 million new guns over the last two decades and violent crime dropped 51% as a result.

Breitbart reported the following:

“CRS found that Americans purchased approximately 118 million firearms, and the 1993 ‘firearm-related murder and non-negligent homicide’ rate of 6.6 per 100,000 fell to 3.6 per 100,000 by the year 2000. It eventually fell all the way to 3.2 per 100,000 in 2011.”

“Then, in 2009—the year the CRS study ended—Obama took office and gun sales began their climb to record levels, which made covering the gap between the 118 million guns that had been purchased by 2009 and the “170 million new guns” that Americans would own by 2015 an easy gap to bridge,”

While leftists claim more guns cause more casualties, recent events out of Chicago, a gun free zone where someone is murdered every three hours, contradicts their claim.

Anti-gunners love to pinpoint specific instances of gun violence to reinforce their point, but the statistics tell a completely different story.  If you support the 2nd amendment, you’re supporting the God-given right to protection against violent criminals who often claim lives before law enforcement ever gets a call for help.
