Economic Meltdown Predicted By The Bible

Recent appearance by Jonathan Cahn on Infowars Nightly News sparks theory that upcoming financial crisis coincides with biblical pattern.

On Monday’s Infowars Nightly News broadcast, Jonathan Cahn publicized his theory of an apparent parallel between economic calamity and a biblical pattern known as “The Shemitah”.  Before analyzing the validity of his claim, it’s important to understand the concept of “the Shemitah”.

“In the Bible, the people of Israel were commanded to let the land lie fallow every seven years. There would be no sowing and no reaping, and this is something that God took very seriously. In fact, the failure to observe these Sabbath years was one of the main reasons cited in the Scriptures for why the Jewish people were exiled to Babylon in 586 BC.” _Michael Snyder.  (source)

This involves more than just land, in Deuteronomy chapter 15, the last day of the Shemitan year was reserved as a time to relinquish debts:

At the end of every seven years you shall grant a relinquishing of debts. This is the manner of the relinquishing: Every creditor that has loaned anything to his neighbor shall relinquish it. He shall not exact it of his neighbor, or of his brother, because it is called the Lord’s relinquishment.

The final day of each seven year period, known as Elul 29, correlates with enormous financial meltdowns throughout history. On September 17th, 2001, the U.S stock market saw its biggest crash in history up to that point. It was pure chaos on Wall Street as the Dow sank 684 points.  Seven years later in 2008 America bore witness to another collapse that saw the Dow plunge 777 points.  This event fell on Elul 29 to the day, to the hour, and to the second.

In fact, the last five economic crises have occurred in seven year intervals, so what does that mean for 2015?

With the current Shemitah year ending on September 13, 2015, I believe a major economic event is on the horizon.  Whether or not something happens in September or not, I don’t believe 2015 will end without a memorable news story – especially considering today’s circumstances are similar to what preceded the 2008 crash.

Consider what was written in James chapter 5:

“Look here, you rich people, weep and groan with anguish because of all the terrible troubles ahead of you. Your wealth is rotting away and your fine clothes are moth-eaten rags. Your gold and silver have become worthless. The very wealth you were counting on will eat away your flesh in hell. This treasure you have accumulated will stand as evidence against you in the last days.”

God warns through His word of a day where monetary wealth becomes worthless.  He advocates for valuing only life’s necessities as the world economy tanks and all that is left are meaningless luxuries.  Based on evidence from the cyclical Shemitah years along with old and new testament scripture, it appears that Earthly events are coming to fruition exactly as they were prophesied.

Regardless of your religious beliefs, most scholars agree that studying history will adequately predict our future.  The crashes of 2001 and 2008 should be enough evidence to cause concern.  Prepare by purchasing precious metals, paying close attention to the financial climate and stocking up on essential items.
