The unconstitutional, unamerican, dictatorial Trans Pacific Partnership has been signed and passed. It has been ratified by secret corporate groups. Congress wasn’t allowed to read it. Over 90% of Americans opposed it.
The senate and Obama pushed it through.
This is the biggest blow to sovereignty, arguably, in the history of America. Congress has lost its legislative control over trade, border control, and currency. Expect increased harassment from entertainment moguls and uncompromising, authoritarian copyright laws (source). Expect attacks on your freedom to use the internet the way YOU want to (source). And, expect lower global standards for the patentability of pharmaceutical drugs. (source)
Julian Assange, founder of Wikileaks, explained the magnitude of the agreement, “the TPP’s intellectual property regime would trample over individual rights and free expression, as well as ride roughshod over the intellectual and creative commons. If you read, write, publish, think, listen, dance, sing or invent; if you farm or consume food; if you’re ill now or might one day be ill, the TPP has you in its crosshairs.” (source)
Evan Greer, campaign manager for Fight for the Future, also explained the disastrous affects of the TPP: “The documents revealed by WikiLeaks make it clear why the US government has worked so hard to keep the TPP negotiatons secret. While claiming to champion an open Internet, the Obama administration is quietly pushing for extreme, SOPA-like copyright policies that benefit Hollywood and giant pharmaceutical companies at the expense of our most basic rights to freedom of expression online.” (source)
Clearly, corporate interests have taken precedence over the interests of the people.
