On the heels of a tragic shooting in Charleston, South Carolina, I am extremely proud of local citizens who chose to unify in the face of fear. They have gathered in solidarity to overcome heartbreak as one.
That is what America is all about.
Horrific shootings have often lead to subsequent acts of violence. One need not look any further than Baltimore or Ferguson – where acts of police brutality caused civility to lose its way. The people of Charleston have chosen a different approach, even going as far as to forgive the attacker despite his hatred. (for more click here).
I write this article in awe of their ability to remain stoic following an unspeakable, heinous, premeditated attack. It would be disrespectful to the nine lost and the families grieving at home to politicize this event at the present time. For now, I feel it is only appropriate to say the following:
May God bless the citizens of Charleston, South Carolina – for their impregnable faith, their tenacious resiliency, and their unwavering ability to love.
